The Director of Cardan Fire is Stuart Granger. Stuart has a vast amount of fire safety experience as demonstrated in his biography:
Stuart started working for Dorset Fire Brigade in 1989 and retired from the newer combined authority, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2020. During that time, he worked operationally at fire stations in Christchurch and Bournemouth and in fire safety where he achieved the role of Deputy Head of Fire Safety for Dorset Fire & Rescue Service. He was one of the few officers who had the level of authority to prohibit dangerous premises.
Stuart was also a qualified fire investigation officer – so he understands fire having spent his career preventing it and investigating its behaviour.
For the last few years of his fire service career, Stuart was the manager for fire safety in the Dorset area, through a difficult period nationally which included the tragedy of Grenfell Tower. Covering the county of Dorset enabled Stuart to gain experience in a wide range of premises from small guest houses, to large factories, to high rise buildings.
Stuart also specialised in event fire safety. Being a statutory member of Safety Advisory Groups, he liaised and worked closely with events, councils and other emergency services.
Stuart is a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE), a recognised Engineering Technician (EngTech), a Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (MIFSM), a Technical Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH), and has a Diploma in Fire Doors (DipFD).
